Silver Cross backs Baby Basics UK’s 50 for 50 campaign

Baby Basics was set up in 2009 as a response to the growing need for practical help for new mothers unable to afford the basic essentials and equipment necessary to look after their newborns.

Baby Basics works, through health and social care professional referral, to support vulnerable families with essential baby and toddler equipment for life with children from 0-5yrs. The charity supports a growing network of baby banks with centres located across the country.

Through the 50 for 50 campaign, Baby Basics hopes to raise £50,000 in order to open and staff a national warehouse to store more, so they can give more to their 50 UK centres.

Over the last year Baby Basics has seen a 185% increase on referrals across the UK and therefore need to be able to accept and store more donations. Sadly, the lack of warehouse space for them means that donations consistently have to be turned down.

Cat Ross CEO of Baby Basics UK said : “So many more families have needed us in the last 12 months and this need will continue for many months to come. The provision of a warehouse will enable us to support our Baby Basics Centres across the UK. It is so difficult to turn away donations simply because we have no space to store them, when we know how much they are desperately needed.”

These donations include those from UK Brands who have continued to support the Charity since the visit of HRH The Duchess of Cambridge in August 2020.

Silver Cross have supported Baby Basics UK during the course of the last year with an additional £5,000 donation to help them achieve their target. David Abbott, Director of Marketing at Silver Cross, said: “Over the past year we’ve supported Baby Basics by donating prams and strollers for families in need, so we’re now delighted to back their 50 for 50 campaign with a £5,000 donation.

“Baby Basics centres across the UK are seeing a huge increase in demand, so we wish them every success in reaching their £50,000 fundraising goal.”

The opening of a National Warehouse will enable Baby Basics to STORE MORE and therefore GIVE MORE to vulnerable families through their network of centres.  The warehouse would be located in Sheffield where the charity began in 2009.

Cat added “It is an amazing achievement to be opening our 50th centre and I am very proud of the work of all our centres across the UK. While we hope and pray that in the future, we have a fairer society where there is no need for any Baby Basics Centres, until then we are committed to supporting as many vulnerable families as we can.”
