Kidvelo Bikes has been awarded the coveted Platinum Best Buy Award and the Platinum Best Ride on 1-3 years at this years Loved By Parents Awards.

Kidvelo, a new bicycle manufacturer, based in Leamington Spa, Warwickshire, launched only six months ago, and set out to improve the performance and quality of kids’ bikes and make them available to parents at affordable pricing. Using the founders expertise from distributing thousands of balance bikes and hosting the UK balance bike racing, Karen and Gary Wood, have taught thousands of children how to ride a bike and have poured that knowledge into manufacturing a new brand; Kidvelo.

Balance bikes are little bikes without pedals, drivetrain or cranks, which allow children as young as 18-months to ride on two wheels. By learning to balance the bike, with their feet safely on the floor, toddlers develop the balancing skill required to move onto a pedal bike, without ever needing stabilisers.

As parents, Karen and Gary’s passion for these little bikes started back in 2008, when discovering them for their own children. Having witnessed how easy and fun it was for their 2-year-old and 4-year-old to learn to use a balance bike, they jacked in successful careers and started retailing and spreading the word what balance bikes were. The company grew quickly to take on distribution and since 2014 have organised inspirational fun riding events across the UK including putting the kids up on the podiums of the professional riders in the Tour of Britain and the Womens’ Tour and taught thousands of kids how to ride a bike. In 2019 the balance bike couple stepped up to manufacturing and the Kidvelo brand was founded.

Taking balance bike design further still, later this year Kidvelo are launching balance bikes for older children aged 3- 8 years. Larger balance bikes that you can add an included pedal kit to, and convert into lightweight pedal bikes.
“There is a scary % of primary school children that have never owned a bike, and often by the time they show interest, they have outgrown the balance bikes available. Also a big percentage of children with dyspraxia and autism, tend to not show an interest in cycling until they are older. The convertible bikes will allow kids to learn to balance first without the distraction and complexity of pedals, before transforming into lightweight pedals bikes. Our aim is within the Rookie rang, we can help every child learn to ride a bike”. – Karen Wood, Kidvelo Co-Founder

Bikes that have been designed to ride perfectly in either mode. Designed to help every child that hasn’t as yet experienced the enjoyment of cycling.

“We are over the moon with this year’s Loved By Parents result. To take the two top awards, that are recognised by an industry-acclaimed awarding body with our first launched model is extremely humbling. We are beyond proud to prove testament to the hard work we put in designing the Rookie 12 to be the best and lightest balance bike” – Karen Wood, Co-Founder Kidvelo
